Judgment, Mercy, and the Character of God

This reading is written to encourage Christians to consider what we know, and what we don't know. Hell is often a pressure point for Christians and non-believers alike, when trying to reconcile God's Mercy with His absolute justice. The goal is not to produce a complete understanding, but to accept that Scripture consistently tells us that God's thoughts are not fully accessible. “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the LORD. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.”

Am I Lukewarm?

“I know your works: you are neither cold nor hot. Would that you were either cold or hot! So, because you are lukewarm… I will spit you out of my mouth.” This is often interpreted as: “If your faith is not intense enough, you are in danger.” But relative to the Church in Laodicea, this may be referring to something else. There is important historical context to consider.
